Faraz Hanif - Y12
Member of the Youth Parliament (MYP) for Barking and
Dagenham.
My role as an MYP is to put forward the views of young
people in the borough to a higher authority.
I’m like the young person equivalent of an MP. I was elected in 2012 as
an MYP through the Barking and Dagenham Youth Forum. As MYP I have attended
many conventions, in these conventions All MYP’s from London meet up and
discuss what they are doing in their boroughs. I had also attended 2 annual
sittings in which all MYP’s in the UK meet up and decide what our national
campaign will be. The best experience I
have had so far as being an MYP has to be the annual House of Commons debate. I
was able to sit in the House of Commons and debate on different issues that are
affecting young people; it was a real pleasure representing the young people of
Barking and Dagenham. I am now looking forward to another House of Commons
debate that will be taking place this November.
